Hello, I am Daenelia and this is my blog. I write about our pets, travel and our love of a good boardgame. I also draw and design t-shirts. And on top of that I am also a web developer and designer.

Short introduction? I’m a short Dutch woman living with a tall British guy. We have two cats and a brave little chihuahua. We live in a house with a tiny garden just outside Amsterdam in The Netherlands. Tiny garden is about all I can handle, garden-work-wise. I’m bilingual, which means I am as fluent in Dutch as I am in English. My favourite chocolate is really really dark chocolate.

Stay focused and get things done

Stay focused and get things done

There is nothing that I like better than to get totally lost in something I am doing. Reading a book, drawing, and especially writing. I love the feeling of being in a flow and getting through something without being aware of the time passing. I understand now that that is something other people call ‘focus’. It can be hard finding and maintaining that focus, or flow. I don’t have to tell you that these days there are many distractions that seem important, but really aren’t. How do I do it?

The cat who needed cats

The cat who needed cats

After we adopted our first cat, Em, we assumed we would stay a single-cat family. After all, Em had been classified by the animal shelter as a loner cat: she did not get along with other cats. But she changed when she started to trust us. Or rather: when she started to trust me, because she was already devoted to my guy. She enjoyed her life with us, but I felt like she was, well: lonely. We took a chance and decided to find her a friend. Lees verder “The cat who needed cats”

What Brexit means for us

What Brexit means for us

We, the humans in the household, met years ago through the power of the internet. It took us a couple of years to work out who would be moving where, because we were fed up with the long distance relationship thing. You see, I’m Dutch and he … well, he is British. He chose to move to The Netherlands for me. And though we have no problem, Brexit is pushing us to do something we never needed to think about.

How to plan your day well

How to plan your day well

Planning my day in the morning always gives me a good feeling about the time I have available. How to plan your day is something I was taught in school, believe it or not. Or at least: I learned how to plan my way through lessons and homework, even if it was not a subject I had to study for. Actually, side note: they totally should teach planning in secondary school at least. Learning how to spend your time and how to study, is a skill will help you. And I would not be writing this article if I didn’t have some ideas for you on how to make the most of your day. By planning well!

My favourite places in Amsterdam

My favourite places in Amsterdam

I was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I still can get lost in the city centre, but I usually am able to find my favourite places. Amsterdam is not that big. You end up where you want to go if you circle around long enough. When you live in a city that is also a tourist attraction, you end up liking the places tourists rarely go to. So what are my favourite places in Amsterdam?

What to do in Florence, Italy

What to do in Florence, Italy

Italy has been on our To Visit List for ages. And last year we finally got around to visit there. We picked Florence, Italy for its climate, beautiful landscape and because of the art. The art! Florence breathes art. Of course there are other things: gelato, great food and warm weather. It has a rich and intriguing history and very nice people (who are probably fed up with all us tourists tramping around). But you want to know what we did, right?
