There’s nothing better than finding time on the weekend to watch a movie. But sometimes, it’s hard to navigate through the countless streaming options. While it may be easy to find something enjoyable in your DVD/Blu-ray collection, where can you stream the best films? I’m here to give you three tips that can help you explore beyond the standard recommendations.

Music and Romance: West Side Story

You can stream the original 1961 film on Pathé Thuis, while the 2022 remake is available on Disney+. West Side Story is a musical about a boy who meets a girl, they fall in love, and then… everything goes wrong. Their friends and family disapprove, but they secretly try to be together. Both versions have their merits. Personally, I prefer the original because I find the execution of the musical numbers to be better. In the remake, I don’t quite understand why the girl falls for that boy. If you’re looking for something similar, both Disney+ and Pathé Thuis also offer Romeo & Juliet for streaming.

Dune: Science Fiction and Sand

Once again, this film offers at least two options. The original 1984 film can be streamed on ViaPlay, Pathé Thuis, and Canal+ Series, while the 2023 remake is available on HBO Max and Pathé Thuis. Dune tells the story of young Paul Atreides, who moves with his family to the sandy planet of Dune. Paul’s father is an important man, who fears for his life as the Emperor of the Universe deems him too dangerous. And Paul’s mother has made her own mistakes, which directly involve Paul. In the original film, you’ll see Sting in a memorable role, while the new version features Timothée Chalamet. The choice is yours. Or you can watch Star Wars (Disney+) since it has incorporated some storylines from Dune.

Family Film: Coco! Music Included!

If you’d prefer something to watch with the whole family, Coco on Disney+ is a perfect choice. It combines humor, music, and a beautiful story that will touch your heart. It’s a film that allows you to relax on the couch and let the emotions wash over you. Miguel enters the Land of the Dead to get to know his family better. But can a living boy really belong there? What family secrets will he uncover? And why is he forbidden from pursuing his passion for music? All these compelling questions will be answered by the end.

So, whether you’re in the mood for music and romance, science fiction and sand, or a heartwarming family film, these recommendations offer something for everyone. Grab some popcorn, settle onto the couch, and let the magic of these movies transport you to captivating worlds and unforgettable stories.
